The Schwinn Airdyne AD7 traces its lineage to the original Airdyne, the bike that introduced air resistance to home fitness in the 1970s, and the AD7 brings that heritage up to modern standards. Instead of the chain found on classic Airdynes, the AD7 runs a Lubri-Tech poly-V belt drive that is notably quiet and maintenance-light, making it one of the more living-room-friendly air bikes despite the inevitable fan noise at full effort. The single-stage fan provides progressive, unlimited resistance that responds instantly to how hard you work both the pedals and the dual-action handlebars. The console is one of the better ones in the category, with a clear display of RPM, time, distance, calories, watts and heart rate, plus a dedicated calorie- and watt-goal interval programming that conditioning athletes appreciate. The seat adjusts up, down, fore and aft, and the frame is engineered for stability through hard sprints. Built-in transport wheels make repositioning manageable. It is heavier and pricier than budget fan bikes and not foldable, but the AD7 rewards buyers with a quieter ride, a thoughtful console and the durability of a design that has been refined across decades of iteration.
