Overview

The Ohio Power Bar is Rogue's answer to the classic specialist powerlifting bar, and it has become a benchmark in the category. The 29mm shaft is noticeably stiffer than a multipurpose bar, which is exactly what you want when a heavily loaded squat sits on your back or a max deadlift is trying to pull the bar out of true. The knurling is aggressive, biting hard for confident grip on bench and pulls, and a center knurl helps the bar stay locked to your back during squats. That same aggression can chew up shins and palms during higher-rep work, so it is not a bar you grab for metcons. The single power knurl mark keeps hand placement consistent for competition-style lifting. Bronze bushings keep the sleeves spinning predictably, though spin is largely irrelevant on a bar built for the slow lifts. Rogue offers it in bare steel, zinc, stainless, and Cerakote; the Cerakote and stainless options trade a touch of raw grip feel for far better corrosion resistance. With a 205,000 PSI tensile rating and a rock-solid feel under load, it is one of the best values among dedicated power bars, even if the entry price is higher than budget alternatives. For lifters focused on the big three, it is an easy recommendation.

Pros

  • +Stiff 29mm shaft stays true under maximal squats and deadlifts
  • +Aggressive knurl and center knurl give confident grip and back grip
  • +High 205,000 PSI tensile strength for heavy loading
  • +Wide range of finishes including stainless and Cerakote

Cons

  • Aggressive knurl is rough on shins and palms for high-rep work
  • Not suited to Olympic lifts due to stiff shaft and minimal whip
  • Center knurl can scrape the neck on squats for some lifters
